SurfQuest empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation and enriches lives by assisting families to access the beach and ocean together in a barrier-free environment. They act as an advocate for accessibility to the water that will allow people with limited mobility to reach the beach (i.e. wheelchairs, assisted devices, strollers, etc.). This monthly beach day is free and open to all ages and disabilities. They provide adaptive equipment with education and training for the advancement of adaptive surfing.

Featuring more than 140 crafters and vendors, this free event is perfectly kid and family-friendly. There will be craft workshops throughout the day as well as meet-and-greets with Winnie the Pooh, the Minions, Baymax, and Mickey Mouse. There will as well be a huge charity raffle with over fifty prizes – products and services from attending vendors. Tickets for the raffle are $1 and proceeds from the raffle benefit the local charity Project Balance. It’s a great place to bring the little ones while you enjoy unique shopping experiences.

Children aged 5 – 14 are invited to join Lightner Museum educators in exploring the portraits and self-portraits shown in our special Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist exhibition. Educators will discuss portraiture alongside some of Degas’ favored drawing media. This informative talk will be followed by an enjoyable self-portrait chalk-drawing activity. Little Lightners (ages 5 – 9 accompanied by an adult) will meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and Lightner Leaders (ages 10 – 14) will meet from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for children with an additional $5 fee for parents living outside of St. Johns County. Attendees of this informative look at sculpture will be engaged in truly looking at and understanding this 3-dimensional art form. Little Lightners (ages 5 – 9 accompanied by an adult) will meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. to look at different types of sculpture to appreciate the stories being told. The Lightner Leaders program (designed for older kids ages 10 – 14) will meet from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. to truly look at and comprehend the types and processes for creating sculpture. Each tour will be followed by an enjoyable model making activity. Tickets are $5 and reservations are required.
