To Mars and Beyond Vacation Bible School

Blast off with the first VBS to land on Mars! Kids become Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God’s power can take them. They’ll lift off to distant planets on special missions to collect power sources. Along the way, they’ll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them. During the adventure they will enjoy out-of-this-world fun games, crafts, science, music and timeless Bible stories that inspire kids to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine! We are now open for pre-registration!
To Mars and Beyond Vacation Bible School is for children starting Pre-K 4 to 5th grade and rising 6th graders. Students entering the 7th grade can register as helpers. VBS is Monday thru Friday, July 22 – July 26, 2019 from 8:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is appreciated for planning supplies and snacks. Download the registration form at www.shoresumc.org. Shores United Methodist Church is located at 724 Shores Blvd, between the Shores Golf Course and Hartley Elementary. SurfQuest

SurfQuest empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation and enriches lives by assisting families to access the beach and ocean together in a barrier-free environment. They act as an advocate for accessibility to the water that will allow people with limited mobility to reach the beach (i.e. wheelchairs, assisted devices, strollers, etc.). This monthly beach day is free and open to all ages and disabilities. They provide adaptive equipment with education and training for the advancement of adaptive surfing.

6th Annual Summer Craft & Vendor Event

Featuring more than 140 crafters and vendors, this free event is perfectly kid and family-friendly. There will be craft workshops throughout the day as well as meet-and-greets with Winnie the Pooh, the Minions, Baymax, and Mickey Mouse. There will as well be a huge charity raffle with over fifty prizes – products and services from attending vendors. Tickets for the raffle are $1 and proceeds from the raffle benefit the local charity Project Balance. It’s a great place to bring the little ones while you enjoy unique shopping experiences.

Find Pirate Mike

Lightner Learning Lab – Drawing Like Degas

Children aged 5 – 14 are invited to join Lightner Museum educators in exploring the portraits and self-portraits shown in our special Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist exhibition. Educators will discuss portraiture alongside some of Degas’ favored drawing media.  This informative talk will be followed by an enjoyable self-portrait chalk-drawing activity. Little Lightners (ages 5 – 9 accompanied by an adult) will meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and Lightner Leaders (ages 10 – 14) will meet from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for children with an additional $5 fee for parents living outside of St. Johns County. Lightner Learning Lab – All About Sculpture

Children aged 5 – 14 are invited to tour and learn about selected figurative sculptures with Lightner museum educators.  Attendees of this informative look at sculpture will be engaged in truly looking at and understanding this 3-dimensional art form.  Little Lightners (ages 5 – 9 accompanied by an adult) will meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. to look at different types of sculpture to appreciate the stories being told. The Lightner Leaders program (designed for older kids ages 10 – 14) will meet from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. to truly look at and comprehend the types and processes for creating sculpture. Each tour will be followed by an enjoyable model making activity.
