TrailMark Hosting 4th Annual Conquer the Trails 5K Run/Walk on Feb. 27

Join TrailMark for Conquer the Trails 5K on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. The race starts at 9 a.m. Pre-race opens at 8:30 a.m. All proceeds will be donated to Fur Sisters – Furever Urs Rescue.

TrailMark is partnering with JTF Racing, a professional, full service race timing and race organizing company, for the Conquer the Trails 5K.

The 5K will start and finish near the TrailMark Welcome Center, winding through the community’s paved trails along the way. The family-friendly event is open to the public.

TrailMark is a unique community in St. Johns County, combining the best of neighborhood living with a nature-first approach, with miles of trails, parkland, wetlands and oak groves.

Fur Sisters – Furever Urs Rescue is a nonprofit organization that saves dogs from overcrowded shelters and other urgent situations. The volunteer-run, foster-based rescue provides all veterinary care and everything needed to care for the dog until adopted. Fur Sisters has found wonderful forever homes for more than 1,000 dogs since the rescue was founded in 2016.

Visit conquerthetrails.org to register for the 5K. Entry fees are $25 for the first 50 to register, $30 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under, and $35 on race day. Race packets may be picked up at the TrailMark Welcome Center beginning at 8 a.m. on race day.

Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine is hosting the 5th Annual Family Fun Fest at Francis
Field on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. This dynamic all day festival is
packed with activities for the KIDS and the KID IN YOU!
There will be live community entertainment including: “Be the Hamster” Snow Cones, Jumpin’
Bean Inflatables, Extreme Nerf Battle Zone, Face Painting, Clowns, Games and appearances
by Local Law Enforcement and Military, Fire Trucks, Costumed Characters, Community
Education, Crafts, Vendors, Beer, Food Trucks and MORE!
Be a part of the action and cheer for our incredible local athletes in The Team Obstacle
Challenge Course. Twenty teams of eight members push themselves to the limits to beat the
clock battling for the ultimate title! A few featured obstacles include: Rock Wall, Jump Boxes,
Tarp Pull, Row Boat and the Warped Wall. Defending the titles for The Team Obstacle
Challenge Course are: 1st Shugart Fence, 2nd A.D. Davis Construction, 3rd Army National Guard
and Top Fundraiser: Nettles Fine Jewelry.

General admission is $5 adults, $3 for seniors, military and first responders, youth under 12 are free. Kid Zone wristband tickets for Jumpin’ Bean bounce houses and Extreme Nerf Battle will be sold at the event for $10 to enjoy all day play.

20th Annual Reindeer Run – Benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs

Hosted By: The PLAYERS Championship Boys & Girls Club & Ancient City Road Runners

CALLING ALL RUNNERS!

A true one-mile run along the St. Augustine Christmas Parade route just before the parade begins is sure to provide large, cheering crowds as runners make their way to the finish line. Check the clock as you complete the race for your mile time!

All proceeds will go to support the youth of St. Augustine at the Boys & Girls Club.

The first 120 registrants will receive a t-shirt, so register early! Day-of registration opens at 8:00 a.m. The race begins at 8:55 a.m.

Confessions of the Corazon: A Night of Storytelling

“Confessions of the Corazon” returns to the Corazon Cinema and Cafe with Gabriella Saho as our featured storyteller, on September 26th. David Fussell will be our special guest host.

Gabriella is a creative service specialist. She recycles, resales, repairs, renovates, restores, removes, invents, improves and instructs materials into art.

According to his Tale Tellers of St. Augustine bio, it states: “David Fussell, a fifth generation Florida Cracker and fifth generation Wiregrass Georgia Cracker, tells yarns and rhythms of Cracker life through personal experiences and learned lore of Florida’s past. With wit, wisdom, humor, and laughter the Cracker South comes alive; fifty years of storytelling from the front porch.”

The event is all ages and is $5 (cash only) for each person. There is room for 10 storytellers each time and it is first come, first served. Sign up by purchasing one item and there are free refills on most beverages. Sign up at 5:00 p.m. and the stories begin at 5:30 p.m. Each storyteller receives six to eight minutes of stage time. The featured storyteller gets 10 minutes of stage time and 50% of the proceeds from the door.

After each event, the current featured storyteller draws the name for the following month’s storyteller.

Kathy is a recently transplanted Illinoisan. After 30 years of serving in public and private schools as a library/media specialist and sometimes social studies teacher, she gave up cold weather and snow for sunshine and ocean breezes. It was not a hard choice. Now retired she is focusing on the favorite part of her former career: storytelling. Kathy is also learning more about her favorite hobbies, photography and graphic arts.
