Confessions of the Corazon: A Night of Storytelling

“Confessions of the Corazon” returns to the Corazon Cinema and Cafe with Gabriella Saho as our featured storyteller, on September 26th. David Fussell will be our special guest host.

Gabriella is a creative service specialist. She recycles, resales, repairs, renovates, restores, removes, invents, improves and instructs materials into art.

According to his Tale Tellers of St. Augustine bio, it states: “David Fussell, a fifth generation Florida Cracker and fifth generation Wiregrass Georgia Cracker, tells yarns and rhythms of Cracker life through personal experiences and learned lore of Florida’s past. With wit, wisdom, humor, and laughter the Cracker South comes alive; fifty years of storytelling from the front porch.”

The event is all ages and is $5 (cash only) for each person. There is room for 10 storytellers each time and it is first come, first served. Sign up by purchasing one item and there are free refills on most beverages. Sign up at 5:00 p.m. and the stories begin at 5:30 p.m. Each storyteller receives six to eight minutes of stage time. The featured storyteller gets 10 minutes of stage time and 50% of the proceeds from the door.

After each event, the current featured storyteller draws the name for the following month’s storyteller.

Kathy is a recently transplanted Illinoisan. After 30 years of serving in public and private schools as a library/media specialist and sometimes social studies teacher, she gave up cold weather and snow for sunshine and ocean breezes. It was not a hard choice. Now retired she is focusing on the favorite part of her former career: storytelling. Kathy is also learning more about her favorite hobbies, photography and graphic arts.

HAWKE Wildlife- Dine on the Wildside Dinner Fundraiser

HAWKE Inc (Humane Association of Wildlife Care & Education), www.hawkewildlife.org a 501 c (3) non-profit rehabilitation and educational organization announces its 24th Annual “Dine on the Wild Side” Fundraiser Benefit to be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The ticketed event will be held and sponsored by the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. The public is invited to this event, a wild Saturday of fun and delicious food. There are no state or federal funds for wildlife rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife. HAWKE Inc., a professional facility since 1987, cares for owls and hawks, but has special facilities for difficult and endangered species with trained professionals to care for them around the clock. Extreme species such as eagles, falcons, bobcats, and river otters need 24-hour care. Their goal is to release animals back to the wild, giving them a second chance at life. Donations and fundraisers are the main support for HAWKE. Melanie Stage, president of HAWKE, reminds the public that the Alligator Farm is much more than a recognized zoo, its natural wild bird breeding sanctuary. There are also many varied educational exhibits with the wildlife. You and your family will enjoy exclusive use of the entire park from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The event includes a guided boardwalk tour of the bird rookery where thousands of nesting, wading birds, herons, egrets, endangered wood storks and roseate spoonbills can be viewed and photographed with their young.
