PAM STEWART
The former Commissioner for the Florida Department of Education, Pam Stewart served in the position from 2013-2018 and was appointed by Governor Rick Scott. Described as someone who came up from the trenches, her career encompasses all aspects of education including teacher, counselor and principal; and locally as Deputy Superintendent for Academic Services for the St. Johns County School District. She served as Deputy Chancellor for Educator Quality and Chancellor of Public Schools for the Florida Department of Education overseeing areas and programs providing support for Florida’s PreK-12 education system, which serves more than 2.7 million students and 192,000 educators.
ALEX SINK
As one of the first female executives in banking, Alex Sink built a successful private-sector career culminating as president of Florida’s largest bank. After 26 years, she moved into the public sector to become the first woman to serve as Florida’s Chief Financial Officer overseeing the state Department of Financial Services with approximately 2,000 employees and an annual budget of $200 million. In 2010, she came within 60,000 votes of becoming Florida’s first female governor in one of the closest races in election history. She has since found a new career passion: helping tech startups grow and prosper. She’s been a senior adviser for Tampa’s Hyde Park Capital, founded the Florida Next Foundation, a nonprofit that supports entrepreneurs, and now serves as chair of Tampa Bay Wave, a nonprofit dedicated to helping entrepreneurs build, launch, and grow breakout tech businesses.
Women United unites influential women from beaches to boardrooms and from academia to the arts. We come alongside women to support further education needs for women and children to allow this generation and the next to successfully reach their full potential.
